I’m famous as the viral “Overly Attached Girlfriend” – this part of my life has been a horror show

Viral fame – or viral shame?

Laina Morris, former YouTuber and the woman behind the viral “Overly Attached Girlfriend” meme, recently opened up about how her viral fame affected her dating life.

On the Assumptions podcast, Morris admitted hosting Tommy Bowe “has been a challenge”.

The 33-year-old revealed that being the face of a toxic girlfriend “was a problem” once when a date was shocked after she showed him the meme and replied: “That’s you?

After that, her date became “very awkward” and rudely started texting people to share news and Googling them online while they were sitting together.

Eventually, the date “ended early” with the person telling her, “I can’t believe I just went on a date with ‘Overly Attached Girlfriend.’

Fortunately, Morris only had one bad experience to share after more than a decade of viral fame.

Morris became a meme in 2012 when she entered a contest created by Justin Bieber and submitted a video of her version of his hit song “Boyfriend”.

In the video, she stares at the camera with wide eyes that barely blink for most of the video β€” a crazy expression that helped the video go viral β€” and sings her song from a stalker’s point of view.

Someone eventually took a screenshot of the intense Morris, and people started adding funny captions that an overly attached girlfriend might say, such as “Can we leave the light on tonight? I want to be able to watch you sleeping” and “I found your porn magazine. Cut out all the faces and put mine in place.”

Her online fame helped her win deals with major brands, including Kia, and book spots on major shows like “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

However, being a viral sensation has been strange.

β€œIt’s definitely weird, but it’s fun. I really like it,” Morris told Business Insider in 2013. “It’s weird when I go on Pinterest or Reddit by myself, just browsing and there I am.”

Morris’ meme isn’t the only time someone’s viral fame has complicated their relationship status.

Last year, an OnlyFans model came under fire after posting a video of herself dancing by her much-older boyfriend’s hospital bed, joking, “I got the will, should I pull the plug?”
