Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Byd plans to double his sales overseas this year as he increases competition with Elon Musk and other automobiles, a high executive said on Tuesday.
Byd Wang Chuanfu said the company projects to sell more than 800,000 vehicles outside China – from 417.204 sold overseas in 2024.
Car buyers in Britain are “very open” for vehicles sold by Byd and other Chinese competitors, according to Wang, who said he expects a “significant rise” for sale. The mayor also mentioned “great opportunities” in some countries in Latin America and Southeast Asia that maintain friendly trade relations with China.
Wang’s remarks were made during a phone call with analysts on Tuesday. A call transcript was taken by Reuters.
Byd products lining a mixture of fully electric vehicles and hybrids – the cheapest of which is available for less than $ 10,000. The company expects to sell 5.5 million vehicles this year.
Chinese car manufacturer is building production plants in Brazil, Turkey, Thailand and Hungary as part of its expansion overseas.
International plans can speak trouble for Tesla, which had China and other international markets to promote growth in recent years. Musk’s firm has recently dealt with a sales slowdown in China, the second in part in increasing competition from Chinese EV rivals that has sparked a price fight in the country.
Global Tesla cars surrenders sank from year to year for the first time in 2024.
Earlier this week, Byd reported annual sales of $ 107 billion – exceeding Tesla $ 97.7 billion in the same period.
Byd further shocked the EV market earlier this month by discovering a charging system that allows its latest models to go 250 miles with a fee of just five minutes.
Byd does not sell its vehicles in the US or Canada, which impose 100% massive tariffs on electric vehicles made by the Chinese. Since taking office, Trump has set an additional 20% fee for Chinese imports – and announced further action if a trade agreement has not been hit.
Meanwhile, Wang said Byd does not plan to sell her cars in the JB and Canada and quoted geopolitical tensions.
Byd will look to avoid the worst tariff effects by buying the key any ingredients within China and buying vehicles in local markets, according to Wang.
Anydo Atttempt by Byd to expand production in North America would need approval by the Chinese government.
Earlier this month, the Financial Times reported that Beijing had delayed the adoption of a Byd plan to build a manufacturing factory in Mexico because of the fear that its technology would flow to the US
Byd said the Mexico Plant, which was first announced in 2023, could produce 150,000 cars a year.
