It didn’t take Robert Redford long to sell his quiet waterfront mansion north of San Francisco.
After listing the Tiburon, California home for $4.15 million in early December, Redford and his wife — artist Sibylle Szaggars Redford — have sold it for $4.65 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Not only is that more than the asking price, but it’s a tidy profit from the $3.1 million they spent on it about four years ago. During their several years of ownership, the couple dressed up the interior with cosmetic upgrades and enhanced the landscaping on the 0.2 acre lot.
The buyer is a fan of Redford’s work, but his association did not influence the sale, the Journal added.
Cricket Wardein, owner of Mighty Pilates — a chain with locations in northern and southern California — is the new owner. Some of her favorite movies include “Ordinary People” and “The Sting” directed by Redford. She didn’t know the house belonged to him until her real estate agent tipped her off—and, as luck would have it, that offer checked some pretty big boxes.
Dating back to the late 1960s, the four-bedroom residence measures around 2,824 square feet – and overlooks Keil Cove and Angel Island. Wardein had been on the hunt for over a year; she told the newspaper that it is difficult to find a house of this size and view in the area.
“I’m pinching myself,” she told the Journal, adding that the relationship with Redford is “fun,” but she considers the house a gem either way.
However, to keep their legacy of ownership alive in a “forever nod,” Wardein also purchased three paintings by Szaggard Redford that she will keep on display inside.
That said, the Redfords now mostly spend their days in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a gorgeous desert town filled with vibrant galleries that’s also home to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. It’s also where Szaggard Redford has been hard at work.
“Unfortunately, we are not able to spend as much time in Tiburon as we would like, as we are now spending more time in Santa Fe … where Sibylle has been creating new art there and focusing on her art gallery. fine arts, Sibylle Szaggars. Redford Fine Art,” the couple said in a statement sent by a listing brokerage. “And we’re both devoting a lot of time to the nonprofit, The Way Rain, also based in Santa Fe, which produces educational and artistic performances to protect the environment and promote global conservation efforts.”
Even though the Redfords have sold this Tiburon property, that doesn’t mean they’ll forget about the town. In their statement, they added that they had previously owned other homes in the area – and this one that just sold really captured their hearts.
“We were immediately struck by the warmth of the home with its light-filled rooms, along with views of Keil Cove, San Francisco Bay and Angel Island – the home has stunning and distinct views from every room,” they added. “We were also drawn to the privacy the home affords, as it sits on a quiet, unpaved road that doesn’t experience much traffic.”
The images listed show bright, beach cottage interiors with soothing water views through massive windows. There is a spacious kitchen, plush living areas and large doors leading directly to the outdoor entertaining areas. The 1,000 square foot south and east decks also have gorgeous water views.
