What was your home experience when you were growing up?
My parents owned the houses we lived in. I didn’t think much about home ownership, but I didn’t assume that I would own at one point.
Why did you start to think about buying?
I was married for over 20 years and suddenly I was found divorced. To say it was a shock is an underestimation.
We had to sell our home, and within a month of sale I was 50 years old.
How did your search began?
My best friend happened to live with my cousin, so I knew this neighborhood was where I wanted to be. If I moved there, I would win an immediate community.
How long do you look before you find your home?
Just about one or two months. I know what I wanted, so I didn’t do the store around.
How did you end up finding your home?
Every day, I continued my vision walks, photos at the house where I saw myself. This took me to the road behind my cousin and the house that relies on him.
I wrote to the owners a letter saying, “I know it sounds crazy, but my cousin is the rest of you. If you ever think about the movement, please tell me.â €
The worst that could happen was that they could say no.
What happened next?
Three days later, their real estate agent called me. As it turned out, the family had just started working with him because they were needed to sell the second in a family emergency abroad.
How was the purchase process?
When the real estate agent shared the price she thought the house would be ranked, I informed her that the price was a little more than I could afford.
Because she was able to be a list agent, as well as my agent, she would receive a double commission if the agreement passed.
She was extremely generous and offered to take a break on her commission, which placed the house in the range for which I qualified. This made it a deal made.
How did you finance the house?
I was able to use money from the sale of my previous home, which we sold after divorce, to make a conventional loan with a 20%payment.
Then how did the complex happen?
Together, my cousin, my best friend and I owned three parts of a square. I opened the fence for my cousin and my friend.
We soon start calling it complex, and the joke that we will have to decide who would live in that fourth house in the square.
Happened what happened to the fourth house?
A year and a half action, my sister also needed a change. I began to think it would be good if she lived in that fourth house. Those neighbors had to make a quick sale after moving to Hawaii in business.
We were friends with them, so we learn this news quickly. I told them about my sister and that their home would be perfect for her.
They hired a real estate professional to come up with the right sale price, and was in line with what my sister was waiting for and could afford. It was a quick sale, and everyone benefited.
How do you know you can live this close to friends and family?
It only works when people respect your borders and you need to be able to have difficult conversations.
My home is often the place of collection, and everyone knows when I did it.
I say it with love, and my people just know that this means I’m ready for bed and it will be time for them to go home and we can get again.
What do you like most about this living agreement?
This constant community flow. My friend will come over most nights, and we watch TV. Or my cousin will come to use the hot tub. When making chicken noodles, I send messages to the group and we have dinner together. My cousin loves frying, so when he needed a grill, we all caught because we all benefit.
It also helps when the emergency arises. My dog had a problem for a few weeks of action, and someone took me to the veterinarian and someone else fed my other dogs while I was out.
Advice what advice would you give to a group of friends who sought to do what you did?
Get creative. You do not need to buy four separate houses; You can buy a larger home together.
You can buy land and build four houses – probably four small houses. You can even buy four condos in a condo complex. It may look like anything.
