You know the feeling. When you first see your printing and your head starts to spin, your palms become sweaty and your heart begins to beat a mile per minute.
Is this love? Or is it … an arrhythmia?
The truth is that they can be both.
“Yes, this is love,” said Samer Sauma, MD, cardiac electrophysiology at Northwell Staten Island University Hospital for The Post. “But to hear that having a lot of overlooked beats can be a sign of a heart rhythm disease, even about long.”
“When these sensations become prominent or associated with palpitations, light of light or by passing out, they can represent something more serious,” he explained.
“Cardiac tracking disease, heart block, dysfunction of the sinus joints, premature ventricular contract and other cardiac arrhythmias are important treatment conditions.”
An arrhythmia is an abnormal heartbeat that occurs when electrical signals that tell the heart to beat is not working properly. This can result in heartbeat very quickly – a condition known as tachycardia – or very slowly – which is called bradycardia.
A normal heartbeat at rest for adults varies between 60 and 100 beats per minute, with a lower heartbeat that generally indicates better cardiovascular health.
But certain situations – such as exercise, excitement or being with your boyfriend – of course can make your heart beat faster.
“Our brain and heart are connected to your autonomic nervous system and any emotion or excitement can produce an overlooked beating or multiple rapid beatings in a row,” Saouuma explained.

A bypassing heartbeat, also known as a palpation, is usually nothing to allude – and is not even technically a “passage”.
“When you feel an overlooked beating, it is most often duo in a premature heartbeat, where the heart squeezes too early, followed by a slight pause, making it feel like an overlooked beating,” explained Sauma.
So how do you know if it is love or an arrhythmia? First, the context is essential.
Is your heart competing or overcoming a beat because of an emotional experience, or does it happen even when you are resting or falling asleep? Is it a flying sensation or lasting?
If the issue occurs when you are calm, it occurs with an adjustment, or lasts for a while, it can signal a basic heart condition.
Other disturbing signs to see, according to Saouuma, are “frequent bypass beats, prolonged palpitations or chest flights, dizziness, outdoors, shortness of breath and rare chest pain”.
If the episodes become “frequent, prolonged and more intensely”, Saouuma said it may be time to see a doctor, who can use an electrocardiogram (ECG) to determine the cause.
“Experts are treating all sorts of heart rhythm disorders to keep you alive and lovers.”
