Once stigmatized, hair transplant surgery has become an increasingly popular hair loss solution in recent years.
In 2021, approximately 703,183 hair transplant procedures were performed globally, on 149,254 of these in the SH.BA and Canada, according to the International Hair Restoration Surgery (II).
The market is expected to rise from $ 11.55 billion to 2024 to $ 44.79 billion by 2033, representing an annual growth rate of 16.25% from 2025 to 2033.
Speaking of The Post, the plastic facial surgeon in Texas and the hair restoration expert Dr. Dr. Samuel Lam confirmed that hair transplant operations were “undoubtedly increasing”.
“With increasing consciousness on social media and from the famous man, I am seeing many more patients entering,” said Lam, who is also a member of the American Academy of Plastic and Reconstructive Facial Surgery (AAFPRS).
Famous like Joel Mchale, Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk and English football star Wayne Rooney have spoken publicly about their hair transplants, thus normalizing a procedure that was once seen as somewhat embarrassing. And they are no longer only men.
“In addition to men, I am seeing an increase in women who come in for transplantation and they make up a large percentage of my patient’s base,” noted Lam.
While most male hair transplant procedures are performed in men (87%), women make up 12% of the market, according to the II.
A hair transplant involves moving the hair from a part of the scalp to an area that is brulling or thinning.
The two main methods used today are the transplantation of follicular units (inserts) – in which the hair glands are individually extracted before they are transplanted – and the follicular unit extract (FUE) – in which a strip of head tissue is removed before It is divided into grafting.

But what many people do not understand about hair transplant surgery is that it often requires some procedures to achieve the desired result – a consideration that any responsible medical professional should take when advised patients.
“The most important ethical consideration when working with young people is if you have to perform a transplant for them as an operation performs them in need of more operations below the line and it is never unworthy if it is a insert or fue procedure,” Lam said. “Medical therapy should be an important part of any consultation, especially for young people.”
Anteda known, this may vary the second in technological advances. According to a study of 2022 II, 68% of members performs an average of one procedure in 2021, out of 3.5 procedures in 2019 and 5 in 2016.
But that does not mean that the future for hair transplants is completely bright, or that it is not without its dancers.
“An alarming trend are patients who now go to perform a hair transplant from a doctor who is not consulted with the patient for his or her hair loss and is not actively involved in surgery,” Lam said.
“This is a major problem in the industry and can go through legal issues where unlicensed individuals are performing the operation without adequate supervision or where the surgeon is neither involved in the procedure.”
He noted that this worrying practice is “most rampant” in Turkey – where the hair transplant surgery has exploded second in its relative affordability – but it is also “extremely prevalence in the SH.BA”
Plastic surgery for men, or “human aesthetics” has been growing in recent years. According to a recent study by AAFPRS, 92% of her surgeons treated male patients last year, with 5% of 2023.
Target property Patrick J. Byrne, president of AAFPRS, told the post earlier, “men, like women, want to maintain a youthful, healthy and refreshed and so minimal occupation options, more men are embracing treatments measured, healing fast than ever before. “
