We are lucky fortunately for 75 years – here is our funny secret for permanent love

To know when to close is the key to a long and happy marriage.

This is according to a Joagenarian couple from England who still loves one another as a newlyweds – a stunning 75 years after saying “I do”.

Trudy and Alan Thomlinson – 97 and 96 respectively, respectively – offered that advice simply when asked about their relationship, which begged when lovebirds met for the first time at a youth social event.

By tieting the knot in 1949, they are still madly in love more than seven decades later, they say, dwelling together in an elderly house where they only spend last year.

“[The secret] You’re learning when you keep your mouth shut, ”Trudy said what is blocking.

“You can be fed from time to time,” she admitted – but promised the pair are “happy we can still be together.”

Thomlinsons moved to the Middleman Lodge Care Home in Derby, owned by Avery Healthcare, who partnership with online Care Home Finder, Lottie, in August 2024.

They say it means a lot to them that they can still spend their days together after all this time.

“We have built a life together and it is great to continue it in such a beautiful place. Going through this transition together has made it much easier, ”Trudy said.

Coupleifi previously shared their story with the BBC.

“We’ve always been together – we wouldn’t think about life without each other,” Trudy said at the time.

It turns out, Thomlinsons are not the only remote worshipers living in the house.

They are one of the many couples who get what is known as the “Companion Suites” – designed to keep the duot together while they receive essential care.

“A number of people go home because they have been widowed and it makes it a very difficult transition,” manager Joanne Graves told the BBC.

“The most important thing for our couples is that they are together and be able to help them do so is a real privilege,” she said.

Residents of Middleton Peter Wade, 90, and wife Eileen, 89, tied the knot in 1958 – and say they are still enjoying each other.

Twosome met beautifully in a dance while attending school in Manchester. Their secret to marital harmony is tolerance, they said.

“Admit that people have few photos, it’s part of the marriage. You can’t leave alone, ”Peter said.

“[Allow] Space for things you don’t really follow, but your partner does, “Eileen added.
