This trend is the direction of doctors’ bananas.
Beauty fanatics are in a rage of fruit as tiktokkers find that they are adding bananas peels to their daily skin regimen.
Unusual beauty deception – which proposes claims to shine and soothes the skin, plus acts as a “natural botox” – involves rubbing a banana peel on the face for a few minutes every day.
A content creator claimed that her face was “so much stronger” afterwards, while another said she does “cleaning bananas instead of botox” for the same results.
“This trend has come from claims that banana skins contain ‘lutein’, an antioxidant that can help shine the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,” Dr. Dave Reilly, a scientist in the absolute collagen, explained to the day, adding that some users have claimed to be an exfoliant.
But it is skeptical that the sweet snack has benefits when applied directly to the face.
In fact, he said, the effects are “limited”.
“While it may be true that the banana peel contains this antioxidant, it will not be topically absorbed through direct application to the skin,” he said.
“The concentration of lutein in the peel is also not high enough to deliver important results.”
Other doctors are also destroying the so-called “anti-aging” hack, which they say is not an abundant substitute for traditional botox-die gurus to be cursed.
“There is no current or food supplement that will give you the same effect that botox can when you inject it,” Toronto -based dermatologist Dr. Geeta Yadav said in a tiktok clip.
Instead, it recommends a product for the care of Pa-County skin instead of budget-friendly fruit peel.
However, the dermatologist of Ohio Dr. Mona Mislankar previously told the post that bananas peels are dangerous like other home hacks for skin circulating online, with the greatest risk being a fruit allergy.
However, it echoed Yadav’s remarks, preferring Botox on bananas. Injected, she explained, “works on a muscular level which is significantly deeper to prevent and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on our face”, something that topicles cannot achieve.
“Unfortunately, ticking trends like these often spread the skin disinformation and can become known quickly,” Reilly said.
“That is why I would always recommend adhering to your reliable skin routine and avoid any” hacks “for the skin to minimize the risk of irritation.”
However, banana peels can be used in a host of other remedies at home, from calm insect bites to removal of pieces.
