A young woman who felt a œcrack on her neck during a gym workout in 2021 died a few weeks later after going to a chiropractor to treat her neck pain, heard a recent question.
Joanna Kowalczyk, 29, from Gateshead, a city in Newcastle, England, rejected a procedure at a hospital and instead followed alternative treatments to help her damage.
Kowalczyk is believed to have undergone an arterial dissection – a tear in the lining of an artery – after injuring the neck during a personal training session in a gym in September 2021.
It had a underlying connective tissue disorder that made it more vulnerable to this type of damage, according to Times.
She also regularly suffered from migraine and had common issues of hypermobility – all of which had been observed in her medical history.
However, her chiropractor did not control her data, and the woman suffered acute dissections in the same place after the neck was arranged, which led to her death.
Leila Benyounes, Assistant Coroner for Gateshead and South Tyneside, decided that Kowalczyk died due to the consequences of treatment of chiropractic after a medical event that occurs of course.
Last week, she published her findings, calling on the Chiropractic General Council to establish rules that encourage chiropractors to control a patient’s medical history before treating them.
Gymgoer downloads yourself from the hospital, requires chiropractor
Kowalczyk had initially visited the Emergency Department after hearing cracking in the neck.
She had a CT scan and it was advised that she should be under the midst of the middle, a test used to rule out the possibility of a hemorrhage.
On the contrary, it “self-discovered” from the hospital and went to a chiropractor to treat pain.
Kowalczyk informed Chiropractor that she had already been in the hospital and had suffered a scan, but he would not try to receive any medical or hospital records.
Kowalczyk then underwent four treatments of rules and manipulation between September and October, according to reports from Daily mail.
Double and vomiting vision after adjusting the neck
During a session on October 16 where she underwent an arrangement â € œlft in the neck, ”Kowalczyk began to experience â € œimedia symptoms of dizziness and rotation of the room.â
She later developed double vision, a tingling sensation in her right hand and right leg and vomiting.
Chiropractors advised her to go to the hospital, but she did not want and chose to stay in the clinic, where she rested for several hours.
Later that day, it was finally treated by the Paramedicians after expertise in speech difficulty, which is accompanied by a stroke.
They diagnosed it with a migraine after hearing that symptoms symptoms of dizziness and migraine were normal after chiropractic treatment. ”
The research found that the medical professional was unaware that the symptoms of the stroke could stop after a short period of time.
They said they would take her to the hospital that day if she would be one to move one.
The next day, Kowalczyk felt “œgravelly inadvertently and had a reduced level of consciousness, and the Paramedi were called back.
She discovered in the ambulance and required ventilation and intubation.
Hospital scans showed dead brain tissue and a tear on the neck wall.
She died two days later, October 19.
“Medical Records that can always be given”
Coroner, Benyounes said: “The evidence in the name of the Chiropractor Treaty was that he did not consider it necessary to ask what was recommended, and its dismissal against medical advice.
â € œheven in the updated consent form that I am provided, which was created by the British Chiropractic Association, there are no questions or questions created for the chiropractor to seek to consider obtaining medical records before appropriate evaluation or treatment .
“The only reference to medical data is a consent to communicate as it is considered necessary for treatment, and to send a report to the GP after treatment.
