We took our kids out of school to go on a five-month cruise – they absolutely love it

Meet the parents who spent $70,000 on a five-month cruise around the world for their entire family.

Mark Baker, 40, and his wife, Tiffany, 39, decided to pull their daughters – Giuletta, 10, Penelope, 8, and Delia, 7 – out of school and embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

The cruise ship will fly to 52 ports in 21 countries – including South Africa, Madagascar and Argentina – on five different continents.

The pair are home-schooling their children and working remotely while on board the ship – which departed from Marseille, France, in January. 6.

They have been sailing for 16 days but have already traveled to Spain, Morocco and Cape Verde. They are currently in South America to visit Brazil.

Tiffany and Mark spent $70,000 for two bedrooms on the ship – and say the cost includes onboard activities, food and drink – and also gave themselves a $10,000 allowance.

Mark says the family are in the “honeymoon period” of cruising and are already looking to book another trip in 2026.

Mark, a real estate investor and remote travel consultant, from Terre Haute, Indiana, USA, said: “We are loving it so much already.

“It’s been four months, you don’t have to clean, do laundry or do a grocery store.

“We have a roof over our heads and are traveling to all these incredible destinations on this beautiful ship.”

“Our family is not on vacation, we’ve moved on a cruise ship,” added Tiffany, a real estate investor and remote travel consultant.

“It’s not like everyone’s partying for a week – we’re living on a cruise ship for four months.

“It’s important, as a family unit, to have this family time for our family – this is not a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

“Hopefully this is the first of many.”

In December. On 30, 2024, the family traveled to Marseille, France, where the cruise started in January. 6, 2025.

They have been sailing for 11 days but have been to Spain, Morocco and Cape Verde and are on their way across the Atlantic.

Tiffany said: “As soon as we left Spain, we realized that every country up to Cape Town will be new to our family.

“It’s so exciting that we can do this as a family, all together, from this point forward we’re exploring it together.”

Mark and Tiffany said their daughters are enjoying life on the cruise and as a family, they are focusing on “interest-based learning.”

Mark said: “They’re loving it, another cost we don’t have to worry about is childcare.

“There is a kids’ club on the ship that allows them to bond with the other kids on board.

“As we prepared to withdraw our daughters from school, we spoke to many families about their approach.

“They talked about interest-based learning, finding what our girls like and supporting them.

“That’s what we’ve done.”

While they are on the cruise, Tiffany and Mark have a property manager who looks after their property portfolio.

“I just want to live life, I want a balanced life — that’s my main focus,” Tiffany said. @atimerichfamily / SWNS

Tiffany says she’s sick of the words “work-life balance” and wants to focus on a balance in life.

She said: “I just want to live life, I want a balanced life – that’s my main focus.

“Together is our main goal on the cruise, we play games all the time, we read books and spend a lot of quality time together.”
