She couldn’t erase it.
A bride who wanted guests to help her paint a canvas at her wedding ceremony as a sentimental gift has been left frustrated by their efforts.
Lofton, a luxury wedding venue in southern Tennessee, posted a video of the art disaster on TikTok, where it quickly went viral.
“When the guests did not understand the task”, the venue wrote on the video.
The clip showed a sign at the wedding reception asking guests to “grab a brush and help us remember our wedding day with a painting created by our guests.”
The bride and groom – who called the activity a “love stroke” – even provided samples at the bottom of the table for guests to see what was expected of them, which was an abstract painting in mixed colors.
Paint colors offered to wedding guests included tones of green, beige and brown.
Instead of following instructions, guests painted what they wanted – including trees, hearts, squiggles and animals.
When the bride saw the canvas, she decided to “fix” it by painting entirely over the works of her guests. She used the muted paints to brush strokes up and down the canvas, clearly unhappy with what her friends and family chose.
“To be honest, the guests never read! You can plan for your wedding all day, leave thousands of custom signs and the guests will continue to do what they want,” the venue wrote in the video.
The tone of the video was meant to embarrass the guests – but commenters thought the guests weren’t to blame.
“Nothing more sentimental than covering the paintings of actual guests to match your aesthetic,” one person gushed.
“Really, what did you expect?” asked another.
“I actually gasped in horror when you painted it,” admitted a third.
However, the wedding venue’s social media team insisted the bride took the fine art fiasco in good humour.
Lofton responded in the comments, saying the newlyweds had “the best spirit about it!”
