I was enrolled in ‘gifted’ classes as a child – now I believe it was a CIA training program

Mom’s little spy?

Adults who enrolled in the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program decades ago as children are now wondering if they were being secretly trained by the CIA.

Anna Mills, known online as @annamillsxo23, helped renew interest in a previously popular conspiracy theory by posting several videos on social media sharing worksheets and assignments she was given as a youngster — leaving many from her followers with questions.

In a TikTok clip, Mills flipped through a binder of her classroom assignments and showed some of the assignments she was given as a child in the 90s.

“The things I found there — I’m like, what were you training us for?” Mills was asked in a TikTok video.

Then, as now, students across the country who demonstrate high cognitive ability and pass a series of tests are taught special lessons that are not included in the standard curriculum.

Many of the worksheets Mills shared involved breaking codes, drawing graphs — as well as learning sign language, Morse code and Russian.

Almost all lessons focused on creative problem solving. A surprising number mentioned aliens or Russian culture.

This has led some to claim that the public school program was linked to the CIA’s Gateway Program.

The federal program was developed in the 1980s to instruct and train people “in the art of shifting perceptual modes, the art of being more aware of special inner resources, inner abilities, and above all, inner leadership.”

He was used to explore the limitations of human consciousness using sound, meditation and other techniques.

The voice recordings used typically featured a series of “non-verbal audio patterns” masked by sounds like crashing waves or wind blowing through trees — similar to the audio entrance tests former GATE students claim to remember taking .

“Some of them were basic IQ tests, but a lot of them were meditation-type tests, where we had to listen to a woman’s voice on an audio tape with big headphones,” said TikTokker Rachel, known online like @rachelthedreamer. her video.

Mills has continued to post videos sharing what she remembers from the lessons as many of her viewers claim to have been in similar programs but don’t remember many details.

Some former members of the programs commenting on the videos expressed doubts about why they struggle to retain memories of these classes — while others suggest their minds have been changed.

“Why do most of us only ‘barely’ remember any of them,” asked someone.

“Completely blocked it for decades now,” said another.

“Why don’t I remember anything but the building and the entrance?” someone asked.

While theories continue to circulate and some declassified documents related to the programs have been offered as evidence by internet nerds, there is no evidence to suggest that the public school GATE programs were affiliated with the CIA in any way.
