Are you being spied on?
A former Emirates flight attendant has revealed why “and how” she spied on passengers during their journeys.
Marika Mikusova worked for Arab Airlines for five years and previously revealed trade secrets – and wild times – in her three Diary of a Stewardess books.
She recently told the Daily Mail that she and her colleagues were “required to ‘check’ passengers” every 30 minutes “to make sure they are alive and breathing”.
She clarified that the “eavesdropping” only applies to first class suites because the private cabins are almost entirely private.
“Business class seats are open, so there is no need for such a special – albeit privacy-infringing – treatment,” Mikusova said.
“The crew is generally required to be alert and aware of what is happening in the cabins throughout the flight,” she added.
Mikusova indicated that flight attendants assess all passengers from the second they board the plane to the moment they disembark to “prevent any escalation of a potential problem,” such as a medical emergency or unruly flyer.
“We do it during the service and throughout the flight, to see if the passengers are OK,” she explained.
Mikusova revealed that there used to be an excited couple who got too “hot” and had to be stopped.
“We had a couple who did quite a nice show outside our gallery. We knew about it and watched them from a distance, ready to pounce at any moment if the ‘wild’ behavior became more frightening,” she confesses.
The crew eventually had to put a stop to the steamy session when it went too far after the man sucked the woman’s lip and dramatically pressed her against the gallery.
“We had to intervene and return them to their places. Then we guarded them”, said Mikusova.
From time to time, we would go over and discreetly check on them in case they decided to continue under the blankets, she continued.
“If you get caught, you can get in trouble for that, especially if you fly on Arab airlines.”
However, flight attendants usually do not like to look at everyone.
“We like it when the service is finally done and the passengers are well fed and ready to sleep,” Mikusova said.
