Preparing for the arrival of a new baby varies from one parent to another.
But this mom-to-be’s somewhat naive list of postpartum rules has TikTok in meltdown.
Isabella is planning to take her postpartum recovery seriously, determined to ignore the expectations society sets.
“This is my controversial, unpopular opinion on how I plan to raise my child,” she proudly begins in the video.
“No diaper changes for about three weeks”
Her boundaries range from skipping children’s music to forgoing diaper changes for the first three weeks.
“You can call me crazy if you want, but I literally don’t care,” she continues.
Here is the full list of its rules:
- He doesn’t call his family right away
- Beauty bootcamp (acids, retinol, sauna, etc.)
- 5/5/5 rules at home
- No diaper changes for about 3 weeks
- No lighted toys
- No music/kids media enabled
- No American formula, fruit mixes, powders, etc.
- Travel plan: South of France, NY, Switzerland
The more unconventional rules drew the most comments.
For the first 15 days, Isabella plans to stay in bed, which she believes is essential to her recovery. She admits that she will ask her husband to take any additional defects.
“When the baby cries, you don’t get up to go get the baby to figure out what’s going on. No, the baby is brought to you so that you can get well, completely,” she says.
“Absolutely no diaper changes for the first three weeks. I don’t care if it’s night or day, I won’t change a single diaper.
She says her body and hormonal system will be in recovery mode during this time.
“There’s no way I’m adding anything to my plate. I’ve got to feed the baby, I’ve got to eat and I’ve got to sleep.”
“Borderline Rabies Bait”
Isabella predicted that one rule, in particular, would be the least popular.
“I’m going to take my baby on the trip,” she insists, adding that she can’t understand why people wait so long to take their babies abroad.
Her baby itinerary is already packed with more destinations than most people visit in a lifetime.
“In five months we are planning to go to the south of France for a few weeks. By shopping, we are staying outside, – she says.
They also plan to visit Austria, Switzerland and New York.
“This baby will come with me wherever I go.”
Her expectations have drawn praise and criticism from parents who have been in the newborn trenches.
“Imma hold your hand when I say that,” one commenter wrote.
“This is borderline rabies bait,” said another.
“I’m dying because the minute you have the baby I can almost guarantee half of them will be thrown right out the window,” one comment warned.
This viewer put it bluntly: “You don’t know what’s coming.”
Others suggested that she save the video and watch it again when she’s 12 months postpartum to see how well she followed the rules.
