A woman has been seriously injured after putting her washing machine on an empty self-cleaning cycle.
Content creator @thatcleanhome gained quite a following when she shared a video on TikTok showing the disgusting amount of brown water coming from a cycle without clothes in the tub.
“And this is why you should clean your washing machine,” she says in the viral video.
The woman, who is passionate about cleaning the house and shares many tips to help others on her platform, went on to explain that her car was otherwise clean and in good condition – it’s just the reality of what the gun accumulates over time.
“The crazy thing is, the filter was clean on this washer, so I didn’t think it would be too bad,” she said.
“But when I put the detergent in and put it on self clean, it was a four hour cycle and that’s on the last hour… so… imagine thinking your clothes were clean washing in that!”
A highly rated gross memory
The video caught the attention of over 2,000 people, who hit the comments section with equal disgust.
“OMG I thought it was just dirt from the clothes,” someone said.
“Yes! Yep, putting this on my to-do list,” added another won follower.
Another person chimed in with “The worst part about growing up is cleaning the things that help you clean,” while others thanked the content creator for the reminder.
How often should you clean your washing machine?
While many people suggested that front loaders were the worst when it came to collecting dirt in their washers, others said they had put their machines on a self-cleaning cycle after making a similar discovery.
“OMG I did the same thing the other day. I couldn’t believe the dark dirt!” someone shared.
But the biggest question people had was if we should put our washing machine on an empty cycle to ‘clean’ it, how often should we do it?
“I do this once a week now,” shared one.
And another recommended “at least twice a month!”
So you?
