Influencer opens up about ‘mother’s rage’ after yelling at 3-year-old son: ‘Not proud’

An influencer has made an honest confession about “mom rage” and the guilt she felt after yelling at her son during bedtime.

Steph Claire Smith has spoken out on social media about something she was “not proud of”.

She said she yelled at her son, Harvey, 3.

She clarified that it wasn’t just raising her voice, but what she did made her feel “disgusting” at the moment. That feeling had followed him the next day.

“Harvey only sleeps upstairs. He woke up, came downstairs to our room and I woke up next to him by our bed asking him to come in,” she said.

Smith said she normally wouldn’t let him into her and husband Josh Miller’s bed because he would often be kicking and screaming after 15 minutes.

Instead, she offered to go upstairs and sleep in his bed. However, it does not always stay all night. Harvey knew this, and although he assured her he would be with everyone for the night, he had a “massive meltdown”.

“He and I both became extremely disordered. It has escalated so much,” she said.

“I was very tired. I just kept thinking ‘of course this is happening the night I go back to work’. Actually, I wasn’t there. I was like him.”

Harvey kept repeating that he didn’t want Smith warming his bed. This is because Harvey’s excuse for sleeping in her bed was that it was cold.

“It didn’t make sense to me. I screamed and scared the living daylights out of him,” she said.

Smith’s husband tried to intervene. Finally, Smith realized what was happening. They let Harvey feel his feelings and eventually, he hugged his mother. Her plan was to try to fix it when he woke up in the morning.

Smith said she wanted to share what happened as there is a lot of “soft parenting” on the internet and she didn’t want everyone to feel as bad as she did at the moment.

She said what happened was just one of those things that only ever happens.

“I just want you to know that I don’t always nail it and sometimes I lose my s*t,” she said.

Many rushed to the comments section to build up the heartbroken mother.

“Mommy’s anger is such a human thing, it’s hard,” said one social media user.

One said: “If you have the capacity, may I suggest you watch some of the old videos where you made his oats in a drink bottle? I honestly have never seen someone so patient and compassionate.”

“Even last night I screamed like never before to my two-year-old son! Bedtime is such a struggle, she gets so excited and silly and I lost her, I had a long day and she just flipped a switch on me,” said one.

Another said: “It happens, obviously not a common occurrence and anyone who says they haven’t is lying.”

“I don’t have kids (never wanted to), but I find your mom content so refreshing because she’s not pretending to have it all together. As someone else said, you’re learning how to be a parent every day,” one added.

Smith recently spoke out after being “embarrassed” by the mum wearing a bikini around Harvey while the two were playing in the pool.

In the video, the mother – who is currently pregnant with her second child – was seen jumping into her family pool to retrieve Harvey’s glasses which had fallen to the bottom.

Harvey, who was off camera, could be heard chatting away. It was something the 30-year-old wanted to capture while the three-year-old was developing his vocabulary.

“Our little chats back and forth are one of my favorite parts of my day. I had a feeling that when he asked me to retrieve his goggles from the bottom of the pool, that he might have had a cute conversation to catch… I know I’m not the only parent who films moments like this to seen. from time to time,” Smith told news.com.au.

However, when she shared the video online, some were unhappy with Smith’s bikini and called it “inappropriate”.

“When I watched it again, of course, I noticed that my guy was a little bit on the show,” she said.

“But as someone who started out as a lingerie and bikini model, and has been posting her body online for 13 years now, I didn’t think twice about it, nor did I think it would have the bit of backlash it has.

“I ignored the sexualized comments from men, but the comments that frustrated me were the comments from each gender that mentioned what I was wearing was ‘inappropriate around a child.’

“I accept that people have the right to their opinion, but that does not mean that opinions should always be shared.”

She said society puts a lot of rules on mothers, but she refuses to be covered simply for being a mother.
