I Bought a $5.5K Cashmere Cape for Just $7.99 – Inside My Secret Hack That Saves $15K a Year on Designer Clothes

A woman who bought a $5,500 cashmere cape for just $7.99 at a thrift store says she saves $15,000 a year on designer clothes by rummaging through the rails.

Anna Gantt, 26, started modeling at age 14 and has starred in campaigns for Savage X Fenty, American Eagle and Free People.

Her background in fashion instilled a love of clothing in Anna, and she developed a passion for hunting down designer items at a bargain price in thrift stores rather than boutiques.

Anna estimates that she saves about $15,000 each year on designer clothes she finds at thrift stores.

Some of her bargains include a $5.5K Loro Piana cape she found for $7.99, a pair of $2.2K Prada boots for $170, and an Escada fox fur coat she bought for $699 dollars that sells for 4.3 thousand dollars.

Anna, a model and content creator from Shreveport, Louisiana, USA, said: “Every year I will allow myself to spend $5,000 on myself – 95 percent of it will be second hand.

“I will not go to Gucci or Dior, I save about 15 thousand dollars a year.

“I’ll go to Real Rail, Depop, eBay, I use everything I can online as well as personal savings.”

Anna said she grew up with the mindset that “you’re never too good to wear someone’s quality piece” and you can find plenty of designer clothes that are discounted or used.

She said: “If you can find the luxury you want in your clothing, then why not buy it discounted or second hand?

“My parents told me you’re never too good to wear someone’s quality piece.

“I’ve always been like that and my parents are like that.

I remember meeting girls in modeling who didn’t understand the frugal world.”

In December 2024, Anna was thrifting with her mom and visited Treasures, in Longview, Texas.

Anna went into the store to find a cape or poncho to wear, she was looking for rails when she came across a cashmere cape.

She said: “I didn’t specifically go in there looking for brand names or labels.

“I am very familiar with fabrics and have been in so many fabrics that I can tell what a piece of natural fiber is.

“When I touched the cape, I knew it was special.”

Anna glanced at the tag and saw that it was a Loro Piana cashmere cape that normally retails for around $5.5k on sale for $7.99.

She said she was “ecstatic” and couldn’t wait to try it.

Anna said: “It was towards the end of the day as we had saved all day.

“I texted my mom saying she would never guess what I found and I was so excited to finally find a cape like it had been on my mind all day.

“Mind you, I didn’t think I’d find a Loro Piana cashmere cape.

“I was ecstatic, wore it to Christmas to show my family and got a round of applause for my find.”

This isn’t the first time Anna has found designer clothes for a stellar price.

In the past, she has found Valentino, Prada and Escada.

She said, “God, I’ve found some amazing pieces.

“I found some Prada boots for $170 and sold them for $700.

“I made a profit on those and they retail for about $2.2k.

“I found an Escada fox fur coat for $699 and it retailed for $4.3K.”
