The hotel worker captured the robbery of the newlyweds wedding cards

The newlyweds were left behind after a member of the hotel staff stole the money from their wedding cards.

Danielle Thomson and Mark Brodie tied the knot at the Crutherland House Hotel in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, Scotland.

They left their cards and gifts from loved ones in a separate mailbox before taking them home to open two days later.

The hotel worker at night Craig Harrison, 37, was captured by security cameras opened envelopes, taking money and closing them again, and arrested by police.

Harrison, from Carluke, pleaded guilty to $ 1,200 at Hamilton Sheriff Court, South Lanarkshire, on February 10, and was asked to pay $ 1,600 compensation for the couple and a $ 1,300 fine on March 11.

The hotel returned to the couple $ 2,400, Danielle said.

Danielle, from East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, who works on food, said: “It was just such a terrible shock.

“Our wedding was beautiful, but we never had to enjoy the beginning of being married.

“It was very disturbing. The cards from my father and Grandad were not there at all.

“We had to go around and ask all our shells than they give us so we can tell the police – who feel very difficult.

“When people ask us about the wedding, we want to talk about how brilliant it was.

The Coupleift then the knot on August 19, 2023 and opened their cards two days later to find money inside – and some were just empty envelopes, Danielle said.

Some of the cards were closed.

The parents of a Danielle and Mark, who works in environmental services, pays about $ 6,500 for their wedding.

Harrison has to pay the total of $ 2,900 by April 8.

Danielle added: “It was a terrible thing to happen and it was exacerbated by the fact that it has been withdrawn for centuries.

“Weddings are expensive and planned to be the best day of your life, you just don’t expect something like that.”

A spokesman for MacDonald Hotels & Resorts, who owns the hotel, said: “Our team cares considerable to keep our shells, and their things, safe during their visit.

“Comprehensive and strict security measures in the country at the hotel allowed us to act quickly and firmly.

“The incident, which happened two years ago, was immediately reported to Scotland Police.

“A full internal investigation was carried out, and the shells were completely refunded for their loss.”
