Are the benefits of lip rolls all talk?
Experts seem to think so. NYC dermatologist Dr. Sheerene Idriss recently got into Tiktok to warn users against cosmetic procedure, which involves injection of Botox near the upper lip to relax muscles for patients who do not want to want a “Gummy” smile.
Idriss revealed that she was unaware of the side effects that accompany the lip rolls until she received injections.
“This is something your dermatologist has to tell you if you are thinking of getting a lip roll,” she said in the video.
In fact, she almost “destroyed” her baby’s birthday after receiving a lip roll because she was unable to help her baby throw the candles on top of the cake.
“Issuing is, Botox requires a good 10 to 14 days to start, and when it is in that period of peace of two to four weeks, it is very difficult to move your upper lip,” she explained, adding that you drinking from a straw or swell candles almost impossible.
While Idriss explained that, for the right candidate, a lip roll can work well, viewers shared their negative experiences with the procedure.
“My lip was so ardent that I was making noise with my mouth when I talked,” commented one user. “Never again.”
“I couldn’t drink from a straw. It was funny!” mourned another.
“You can’t blow your nose! I wasn’t prepared for that little discovery with a lip roll,” someone else wrote.
“I immediately regretted it and will never do it again!” Another was pleading, adding that “changed my smile.”
And they are not. People have previously shared their stories of injectable horror online, with a woman claiming she “closed as a serial killer”.
In 2023, Chloe Ellies revealed that just three days after receiving Botox Jabs for a lip roll, she remained unable to smile properly.
“On that third day, my boyfriend said I came the girl out of ‘smile,” she told the post at the time. “I ran in the mirror, smile and then shouted big crocodile tears.”
She said she entered “Mode Panic”, researching how long the effects of botulinum toxin will last – and was “destroyed” to find out that it would take weeks a month to fully faded.
She was so “embarrassing” that she would smile every time she laughed.
“It completely distorted my face – my cheeks were flattened and frozen, and my eyes now wrinkled where they had never had before because my outer cheek was pushing over them when smiling,” she said, calling the test “a terrible first experience”.
