The Federal Commission of Trade wants to mature the Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg next month during an antitrust trial seeking to drop his purchase on Instagram while Feds creates a Big Tech blow.
Zuckerberg is one of the several main metacuratives to be called to testify in court, according to a list of witnesses filed by FTC lawyers in a Wednesday court file. The trial is scheduled to begin in April.
Feds said Zuckerberg is expected to be questioned for seven hours – from more than most others included in the list. For example, the testimony of co -founder on Instagram Kevin Systrom has been recorded in about three hours.
In addition to Zuckerberg and Systrom, prominent executives included in the FTC witnesses list include former Faacebook Coo Sheryl Sandberg, current Instagram chief Adam Mosser and current Meta Javier Olivan CEO.
“We are confident that evidence in court will show that Instagram purchases and WhatsApp have been good for competition and customers,” said a flawed spokesman in a state.
FTC claims that the company previously known as Facebook has maintained an illegal monopoly on the social media market. Specifically, the federations say the company paid a lot to get Instagram for $ 1 billion in 2012 and WhatsApp for $ 19 billion in 2014 in order to stagnate competition from potential rivals.
Federations want to force a meta split forcing him to rotate Instagram and WhatsApp as independent companies.
The agency initially filed a lawsuit against Meta in 2020 during President Trump’s first term in office. Last November, US district judge James Boasberg deducted some of the FTC claims, but said his essential argument for Instagram and WhatsApp could process trial.

“The commission faces difficult questions if its allegations can keep at the intersection of the trial,” the judge said. “Indeed, his positions occasionally strain the precedents of this country’s antitrust for their limitations.”
FTC, led by Trump-Appointed Mayor Andrew Ferguson, has signaled that he will continue to maintain a difficult attitude towards the technology industry.
This week, FTC confirmed that he would pursue a lawsuit against Amazon to claim fraudulent practices involving his reconciliation service – hours after seeking a delay in the second procedure for lack of resources.
