Girls’ girls have been indicted by consumers for the alleged presence of “heavy metals” and pesticides in its exquisite popular mints and other cookies.
A proposed classroom action was raised on Monday evening at Federal Court Brooklyn, NY, against the 113-year-old nonprofit and licensed cookies, ABC Bakers and Ferrero USA Little Brownie Bakers.
He mentioned a December 2024 study commissioned by GMO Science and mothers across America, who tested samples of 25 cookies from three countries.
The study said that Girl Scout cookies contain at least four of the five heavy metals – aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury – that can harm human health or the environment, often at levels that exceed the recommended limits of regulators.
He also said all samples contain glyphosate, a pesticide used in some weeds, with thin mints containing the highest levels.
“While the entire sales practice system for cookies Girl Scout is based on a foundation of ethics and teaching the stable business practices of young girls, defends failed to support this standard sluss,” the lawsuit said.
The defendants did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Girl Scout, short for the girls of the United States Scout, addressed the study on a February. 6 post on blog.
He said heavy metals occur naturally on Earth, with trace amounts not a matter of safety, while glyphosate is found “almost everywhere” in the food chain. Girl Scout also said her ovens are committed to comparing all food safety standards.
“The health and safety of Girl Scout and cookie customers is our main advantage,” said New York-based non-profit. “Stay safe: Girl Scout cookies are safe to consume.”
Cookies are sold by registered girls of girls from January to April, with net income that supports local advice and troops.
The lawsuit is run by Amy Mayo, a resident of Bayside, NY.
Mayo said she bought numerous Girl Scout products like adventuretefuls, butter butter patties and caramel delits, believe they were “quality and secure cookies”.
She said she would not have bought cookies or “would have paid significantly less” if the girls had revealed the presence of “dangerous toxins”.
Judicial proceedings require at least $ 5 million damage to US cookies buyers for alleged violations of consumer protection laws in New York.
Some chocolate manufacturers, including Hershey, face lawsuits after consumer reports in December 2022 found elevated levels of cadmium, lead or both in their products.
The case is the Mayo V Girl Scout of the United States of America, the US District Court, the Eastern New York Circle, No. 25-01367.
