The Brazilian woman who went viral after refusing to give up her pre-elected window of a crying child, says she has officially filed charges against the airline and the passer-by.
Jeniffer Castro, 29, a bank employee from Belo Horizonte found him in the center of an online storm after the incident in December.
An incident video – which Jeniffer says was actually filmed by a passenger and not the mother, as it was reported earlier – went viral, leading to a swirl of shame online.
Castro also suddenly rose to social media fame with her Instagram after growing up to 2.1 million, leading her to secure numerous brand deals as an influential, she said.
And she now claims she has officially brought against the golf lines to seek compensation for the concern and damage caused by the evidence.
She says she has also won against the passenger friend who raised her.
Mentioning “judicial secret”, Castro refused to disclose the amount and would not be sure of the legal documents.
She says she wants to prevent the similar public confusion and what she called unauthorized exposure in the future.
It comes after it was reported last month it was “considering” the legal action.
“Since that incident, my life has taken a turn that I could never imagine,” Castro explained.
“What should have been merely an ordinary flight became an extremely embarrassing situation, exposing me unjustly and causing consequences that influenced both my personal and professional life.
“I was the target of judgments, attacks and speculation by people who don’t even know full story.”
Castro says the incident began during the dormitory when she noticed a child sitting in her designated place.
Since she had chosen the window seat in advance, Castro expected the child to move to another country.
“I waited for him to accommodate myself correctly in another place, and then sat in my place,” she recalled.
The situation escalated when someone started filming Castro without her consent, she said.
“Throughout the flight, the baby cried a lot, which, though unpleasant, is understandable when traveling,” she recalled.
“What surprised me was the fact that a person who had nothing to do with the situation began to film me without permission, insulting me and trying to publicly shame me simply because I didn’t want to change the places.”
The viral video led to widespread public reactions, which Castro says had serious consequences for her mental health and professional career.
“My reaction was complete shock,” she said. “I never imagined that something could just get such proportions.
“Professionally, my life has changed a lot, so much that today I am no longer in the field where I have worked before,” she added.
“I was a banker. In my personal life, at the height of the consequences, I practically did not leave home.
“In addition to emotional influence, I was also afraid, because we know that, unfortunately, there are many bad people in the world.”
In response to public control and unauthorized filming, Castro says she decided to take legal action.
“I decided to sue the airline because what happened to me was a big embarrassment, and this situation should never have reached this point,” she said.
â € œ no one deserves to go through what I went through, being filmed, insulted and attacked only for the exercise of a fundamental right.
“This lawsuit is not only the reparations, but also to defining a limit in this type of behavior.
“We all have rights and they must be respected, despite other people.”
She added: “We gathered all the necessary evidence and took the right measures against anyone who filmed me.
“There is no action against the child’s mother, only against those who violated my privacy.”
Despite the reaction, Castro remains strong in her belief that she was within her rights to maintain her country.
“Everyone has their own opinion and I respect it,” she explained.
“I believe we live in a society where you think otherwise is natural and healthy, as long as there is respect.
“What makes everything more complicated is when people or attack without knowing all the details of the situation.”
Castro says she hopes that the legal action will place a precedent against public shaning and unauthorized exposure.
“I believe we have to respect the people of election and decisions, especially when they are within their rights,” she noted.
“It is essential to normalize” and realize that no one should be forced to justify something simply to give it, “Castro added.
“We live in a society where € ˜noâ is often just as rude or selfish, but that must change.
“Each person has its own reasons, preferences and boundaries, and all this must be respected without judgment.”
Castro says she is focused on rebuilding her life and advocating on personal borders while awaiting the outcome of her lawsuit.
“The search for compensation is not only about justice, but also about the responsible keeping of those who inappropriately exposed my image and my insect so that this kind of situation will not happen again with other people.”
