A New York man has gone viral after sharing his heartfelt story of love and loss – causing widespread interest in a humble park bench to honor his late bride.
Jack Ciapciac continues daily walks along the West Side Highway – but it’s not to exercise.
The popular path is where the 32-year-old television writer proposed to Jack Lorentzen, his partner for seven years, immediately before Lorentzen died suddenly.

“Two months before he died, I proposed to Jack by surprising him with a bench in Hudson River Park,” Divided Capciac in a tiktok last month – which currently has 10.2 million views.
“Jack, will you marry me? Love, Jack, ”reads the tiles on the bench shown on the next slide.

Ciapciak and Lorentzen had their first date in Jan. 14, 2016, after being created by mutual friends – coincidentally both named Kate.
The duo met for drinks at Finnets in East Village and according to Ciapciak, “all it took was a date and we both know … That was special.”

“I remember going inside and saw him in the grass and simply blown out of his (smile) and his eyes. He was someone who just radiated such a joy and happy, “Ciapciac told today.
“I remember he was drinking a beer, so I ordered a beer, though I don’t even like beer. And I just remember being sitting there and thinking, ‘Oh my Lord, this guy is so unbelievable and there is no way he will be in me.’
But much about the surprise of Ciapciac, he was. The two quickly fell in love and told each other, so after only three weeks.
A year later, they moved together, and in September. 2022, after seven years of meeting, Ciapciac finally proposed to the love of his life in front of the strategic chosen bench.
“He came to him and was completely shaken and caught by guard,” Ciapciac said for today. “We sat on the bench and shouted. We continued to walk, and I had both of our families waiting for us in a boat for a navigation of the sun.”
In viral tiktek, Cialpakci explained that he planned to change the plaque in “Jack & Jack October 14, 2023” – their wedding date – after connecting the knot.

Unfortunately, the tragedy hit before the pair went down the line.
Lorentzen died suddenly from an undeniable heart condition at the age of 30 on Christmas Eve 2022 while visiting families.
In October. 14, 2023, family and friends gathered on the bench in Hudson River Park to honor and mourn the couple for what would have been their wedding day.
“I was angry with my past with him, but I was throwing my future too.
He started walking on the bench every day and saw that he was a memorial where loved ones would leave flowers on occasional days or gather at one point. It is where a friend surprised the sad fiancé with a cake the first time that they celebrated Lorentzen without him and where his long best gathered and shouted to drink illegally in public, which he would have loved.
Ciapciac wanted the tile to include a quote to honor his man – but tried to choose the perfect words to get into the bench to capture him.

Then, Ciapciac recalled a quote from Lorentzen’s favorite movie, “Never Kiss”, which says, “Find out who you are and try not to be afraid of it.”
“Jack always said that once he came out and began to live authentically, everything in his life fell in place,” Ciapciac in a ticking video said. That is why Ciapciac “decided this was the perfect message he would like people to walk to see.”
“A few days I feel like he is telling me greetings when the sun shines on the bench,” he added, encouraging viewers to walk on the West Side and “Visit Jack.”

Ciapciac begins to post his daily thoughts on sorrow in Tiktok in January to express his emotions – without feeling like he was burying his loved ones. He quickly massive over 30k followers while others were associated with his pain and shared the stories of the loser and missing boyfriends.
He shared his saga heartily last month to answer viewers’ questions and was joyfully bored of reactions and millions of views.
“For the first time, I feel like I am finding meaning in his death,” Ciapciac told today. “You know, the fact that this seems to have helped many other people brought me so much peace, and I’m really grateful for it.”
Capciac videos have been flooded with comments from millions of people to beg more stories and suggest that he write a book that, much for everyone’s pleasure, cilpciacs to do.
Others are using the epic love story to honor their stories of grief and planning to visit the bench the other opportunity they get.
“When I finally visit New York I will sit on that bench and just breathe. Live the moment for Jack, for my mo, and my two sisters who went through,” a person commented, to which Ciapciak replied, “Hope you do!”
