Geraldine Joaquim is extremely well traveled. It takes about four foreign vacations a year and has visited more than 60 countries, enjoying yap tips in Micronesia, Brazil, Okinawa in Japan, Russia, South Africa, Australia, Mozambique and much more.
Last year, the 54-year-old reached five tripps: skiing in Andorra, Safari in South Africa, a villa celebration in Italy, a week of Sharm by Sheik Egypt and a Christmas market in Mons and Bruges, Belgium.
Joaquim, from Petworth to West Sussex said: “I like to see new and different places, really feeling like I am in a completely different place for my normal life and experiencing interesting cultures
“I think it’s a privilege to be a tourist in another country, so it’s important to see the good and not so well, and not expect a sanitized version.
â € œAit also makes me appreciate what I have at home even more, and this is something my husband and I have encouraged our two daughters to experience.â €
Joaquim is a hypnotherapist and wellness coach, but once traveled professionally when working in international marketing. Now she only travels for fun.
“I really like to experience a variety of activities, activities, beach and culture-I like to know I’m somewhere different, not just sit on a beach or stay in a hotel that may be anywhere,” she said.
“I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some very distant places as well as the most common, and I try to keep an open mind and learn a little about local culture and customs,” €
But despite its weaving, Joaquim will not like to be away from home for a long time.
Getting a good mirror in different cultures and ways of living not only expands our horizons, but also helps us to appreciate what we have at home.
“And I do not really like to be away from home for long periods, with all our conveniences and the familiarity of being in our environment, seeing our friends and family.
â € œI This sounds counterin to the amount of travel I make, but I also miss my pets; Our two dogs, both Rhodeback rhodeisan, and our cat, honey when I’m away. So it travels a little and often hits a beautiful balance. “
There is only one place she would never visit, Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
“It was probably one of my worst travel experiences,” Joaquim said. “I was on a work trip flying from Montevideo to Uruguay and my flight arrived late at night. I had a car book to transfer from the airport to a hotel to the city for a night before I went to Isla Margarita, a small island on the coast.
“I felt quite normal until I started waiting for the transfer, and I waited and waited. I was there for hours and while draining the small airport I realized I was alone.
“My phone was not working, it was 1pm and there was no one else around. So when a man appeared and said in English that he was here to take me to the hotel I was relieved. But as I got into the car, it was another man sitting in the front seat and my stress response passed through the roof.
“I would never go normally into a car with two strange men, but I had no other options, so I got a small pen knife from my hand luggage and crossed the 30-minute trip to high alert with tight in my hand,” she explains.
Fortunately, she arrived at the hotel with no incidents, stacked her luggage in front of the door and spent a night asleep.
The next day, as she paid her tax at the airport, a young man took her bags and fled.
She followed after him, just to learn that he was providing a check -up.
Joaquim eagerly delivered some money and searched for the following flight.
