Size matters! The new US map reveals how much the big states would be – if they were to be changed in size from the population

The American population has spread between 3.8 million square miles in 50 countries, however nearly one -third of Americans live in only three countries: California, Texas and New York.

Only New York City has more people – 8.5 million – than 38 countries.

To help people better visualize the distribution of the population, the visual capitalist of the Staticler Staticler reinjected an American map that stairs are said on the basis of population figures drawn from the 2024 Census Bureau data.

The most populous states – California, Texas and Florida – predominate the map, with the golden state of the west coast running the package with a population of 39.4 million, followed by Texas at 31.3 million and Sunshine State at 23.4 million.

Together, those three countries make up a stunning 28% of the American population .â

And while some states may be large according to Earth, their population is relatively small.

Alaska is the largest US state crossing the area more than 665,000 square miles-but has an excessive population of about 700,000, making it a few populated state.

Meanwhile, states, including Vermont and Wyoming, look almost invisible, give their small population of about 600,000 inhabitants each.

Other states would seem much larger because of their dense population.

For example, Florida ranks 22nd in size, but the third is based on residents.

North Carolina, with 11 million calling the state home, would take up more space than South Carolina, which has only half of its northern neighbor’s population.

New Jersey – with its 9.5 million inhabitants – would look bigger than states like Virginia, Oregon and Idaho, whose borders are nearly three times more than size.

The data visualization company created a population -based map to show how “low -population rural areas can sometimes have a second political impact on structures such as Electoral College or Senate”, wrote the visual capitalist.

“When dense populations often support in one way politically, and rural regions with few populations support another, then the gap between population -based representation and geographical impact is even more pronounced.”
