Meet the woman who lives like Jane Austen-from the Regent-style costume dress to write novels.
Jessica Bull has been in love with the writer since the first episode of pride and prejudice transmitted to the BBC in 1995.
The 46-year-old from London is a Janes term used to characterize the devoters of Jane Austen’s work.
Mother-Two has inhabited her world dress in the world in regency-style customs, following balls and even learning how to travel on horseback.
She has read all her works, looked at any adaptation and read any biography she could find.
Jessica studied English at the university and began her career as a library before becoming a communication consultant – also said Austen was her aspiration to become a romance.
Trying to find comfort for Austen’s work, he encouraged Jessica to start writing fiction again after a break of 10 years.
And in 2024 she finally published her debut novel-a murder mystery inspired by Austen.
Jessica said: “I have tried many ways to dwell in the world of Jan Austenâ, and some of these have been successful that others my backyard chicken flocks are blooming, but it is not so easy to learn Stop horse in your forties!
“Famous, Janes like to dress in regency costume and I liked it out by pulling my old sewing machine to create some.
“I even turned my husband’s obligation to my main man by sewing him a seaport of Captain Wentworth!”
This year has been 250 years since the English writer known for six celebrated novels was born.
But despite two and a half centuries, passing, Austen Hype is still very alive-especially after the release of Miss Austen’s highly predicted drama in the BBC.
Jessica said: “I will be in love with Jane Austen since the first episode of pride and prejudice was broadcast in 1995.
“I have been blown up with everything about the BBC adaptation” – the gloomy humor, the costumes, the romance and, of course, Colin Firth like Mr Darcy!
“At that time, I was 17 and studied for my levels A-so I asked my English teacher about Jane Austen and he sent me to the library to borrow her books.
“Since then, as well as reading all her works, I have looked at every adaptation and read every biography I could find. There is something so comforting in the way Austen encourages us to laugh at ourselves and the world around us . “
For Jessica, being Janite is “great fun” – as it is part of a community that encompasses the globe that shares love for its novels.
Together they visit Austen’s life and work – including the countless property of national faith, as well as the Museum of Jane Austen in Chawton.
And together enjoy learning more about what life was for women in her time.
“Because the community is based on our common love for Austen, we are very welcoming and never take our ours very seriously,” Jessica said.
“I have tried many ways to dwell in the world of Jane Austen, and some of these have been successful that others my backyard chicken flocks are blooming, but would not give you learning to ride horse in Your forties!
“Famous, Janes like to dress in regency costume and I liked it out by pulling my old sewing machine to create some.
“I even turned my husband’s obligation to my main man by sewing him a seaport of Captain Wentworth!”
But Janes also began and participates in events inspired by Austen about the United Kingdom-from the festival are Austen in Bath to Jane Week Alton, Hampshire.
And Jessica’s favorite events are the balls – where they have to wear their best regeneration habits.
She said: “This year is very exciting, as there are more Austen inspired talks, exhibitions, costume meetings planned than ever to celebrate the 250th anniversary of her birth.
“My favorites are lush balls held in her honor, where we have to wear our finer dress and try to follow her tracks on the dance floor.
“The regency dance is much faster and more turbulent than the movies would lead you to believe. How can she flirt her heroines while continuing with the steps, I don’t know! “
To the look of the regency is “iconic” – as it is “different” from everything that came before and after.
Jessica said: “At the end of the eighteenth and early 19th century, women were seeking greater freedom than ever before, and fashion reflected this – in enabling women to dress without a maid of a lady and participate in training .
“I have to say, Empire Line dresses, flat shoes and even short stays – like a half corset – are surprisingly comfortable and easy to wear.”
Jessica, who studied English at the university, began her career as a library before becoming a communication consultant – but her aspiration was to become a novelist.
Attempting to find comfort in Austen’s work inspired Jessica to begin writing fiction again after a break of 10 years.
And in 2024 she finally published her debut novel Austen-expressed the mystery of the Miss Austen Investigates.
She said: “After I had my two daughters, I had difficulty finding time to write and lose some of my faith.
“When the Pandemia happened in 2020, I turned to my love for Austen for comfort, and he was realizing how difficult he tried to publish that I encouraged me to start writing fiction again after a 10 -year break.
“In 2024, I finally published my first novel, a murder mystery inspired by Austen, Miss Austen Heton with Penguin Michael Joseph, and have a second, a fatal fatal coming on March 27.
“The most revolutionary act of Austen was to make an ordinary woman the heroine of her history.
“She is sometimes criticized for the tightness of her imaginary world, but her novels prove that the little things in life – such as the way you sail relationships with potential partners, friends and family – are as interesting as stories about war and Other male male masculine masculine threads.
“If time has proven anything, it is that Austen had such an excellent, born human meaning of course, that its characters are universal.
“Her stories are just as fresh and as important today as they were when she first wrote them, over 200 years ago.
“That is why they are constantly confessing and adapting to reflecting different ages and cultures.
“I really hope that all the resurrected interesting in Jane Austen this year will lead many young readers revealing that they love her job just as much as I do.”
