When a worker tested her boss to confirm that she could get the annual permit for her uncle’s funeral, the response shook it.
Ben Askins is a UK job commentator who has found his sweet place by sharing anonymous texts from the bosses and offering his advice.
Recently he shared an exchange of text messages between a boss and an employee who even had him in disbelief.
The worker texted her boss to “secure” she was still able to take time for her uncle’s funeral after she received an email from her boss to keep the annual leaves approval.
The boss replied that while he was “too bad” to hear about her uncle, he could not afford to make any “exception” for the rule.
“If I give you a time of rest, I will have everything with special demands,” the boss argued.
The employee responded and asked her boss to make an exception because she and her uncle were really close. She added that she was “sure the rest of the team would understand” to give the circumstances.
The boss doubled and said he was “really bad” and that it would be different if the family would be “immediately”, but that was very stretched.
The employee did not give up and argued again that it was only one day and she would make sure she didn’t “fall behind” for anything.
“This really meant a lot to me,” she added.
The boss did not withdraw and said that after some thought, the only conclusion he could come to get what she had to take half a day off and then make up the rest of the week.
“I think we can justify that don’t (let) others (know) you are receiving special treatment,” the boss warned.
The employee replied, “Okay, thanks ..”
Askins was terrified of the exchange and said the boss’s attention to hit the fact that he was giving his employees time to participate in a funeral was nothing less than “strange” and inappropriate.
He also argued that bosses can always make “exceptions” to the special circumstances of the people and this has nothing to do with anyone to give any special treatment.
“Different people look for different things at different times. It is okay to treat people a little different depending on the circumstances, ”he said.
Askins ended his view by rejecting the exchange of text was “so bad” while appearing physically terrified of the exchange.
Text messages, of course, promoted a big online response, with a user claiming that if she was denied permission to participate in a funeral, she would require a “new job” and not stay around .
Another argued that going to a family funeral is not a “request”, just telling your boss that you will not be able to work.
Another said that if their boss was so unreasonable, they would take their “resignation” because there are other jobs there.
Other people shared stories to deny the time of dismissal to participate in a funeral. One person said the former employee was “rejected” for her aunt’s funeral, and another said she was also not refused to attend her grandfather’s funeral.
