No more carnivorous?
A man from Florida, in the middle of his 40s, with a diet rich in meat, fat and dairy, arrived at a hospital in a leak emanating from the yellow joints in the palms of his hands, elbows and toes.
The man told doctors that he had adopted a “carnivorous diet” for eight months, explaining that his daily intake consisted of entire butter sticks, 6-9 kilograms of cheese and hamburger pie.
His case was published in Jama Cardiology this week.
Carnivorous diet – which includes consuming only animal by -products such as meat, eggs and milk – has gained popularity in fitness circles. Fans claim that the lifestyle of pure protein, without vegetables has helped them lose weight and improve their overall health.
This patient, however, seems to have led him to the extreme – and he insisted that his general health had improved.
Since the beginning of full fat and all animals, the man claimed to lose weight and without significant improvements in his energy levels and cognitive functioning.
But his skin was another story: painless drainage, but no doubt had touched it for nearly a month before seeking treatment.
Doctors found that the total level of human cholesterol with butter exceeded 1000 mg/dl. By comparison, a healthy cholesterol level is below 200 mg/DL, while 240 mg/dl is considered “high”.
High total cholesterol is strongly linked to coronary heart disease.
Before adopting his extreme carnivorous meal plan, the man’s cholesterol had fluctuated in the 210 to 300 mg/dl range.
Cardiologists diagnosed a man with xanthelasma, a condition caused by high levels of cholesterol or other fats in the blood. In cases of ksantelasm, excess lipids derive from blood vessels and form localized lipid deposits.
These deposits are usually found around the eye, a condition called xanthelasma palpebrarum, but can appear, as happened in this case, elsewhere in the body.
Xanthelasma – especially Xanthelasma palpebrarum – can be caused by high cholesterol, diabetes or thyroid problems.
The authors of the case study did not provide information about the man’s result, but noted that the case “emphasized the impact of dietary models on lipid levels and the importance of managing hypercholesterolemia to prevent complications.”
However, some stubborn meat will not pay attention to the warning.
Earlier this month, a former angel gained tick withdrawal by advertising “its high-fat carnivorous diet”, consisting of whole butter sticks, ground beef and nearly two eggs a day.
And the base of fat fans ahead does not end there.
A fitness influential swears by her diet with bone juices and raw liver, while a former Vegan claimed that her hair, teeth and nails improved only by eating animal products.
In 2022, Ticketer Courtney Luna became viral for the breakdown of her carnivorous diet with cream, butter, steak, bacon, eggs and hamburger after boasting that her diet helped lose 30 pounds.
Surprisingly, disease control and prevention centers do not approve the carnivorous diet. They advise eating a “variety” of fruits, vegetables and cereals, along with low -fat milk sources and various protein sources.
A healthy diet, according to the 2020-2025 dietary guide for Americans presented by the US Department of Agriculture, consists of 2.5 cups of vegetables daily, 2 cups of fruit, 6 cups of cereals, 3 cups of dairy, 5 grams of oil. and only 5.5 ounce meat per day.
