The Kid’s shocking act ignites a heated debate over whether children should be allowed in pubs

A heated debate over the presence of children in pubs has been reignited after a child stole a woman’s Australian $2 coin from a table.

The Australian saleswoman said she placed the gold coin on the side of the table and within seconds, the child ran up and picked it up.

“I was at the pub and we put our $2 coin on the pool table. A little kid grabbed it and ran away with it,” said one user, @Baccy.b0ng, in a TikTok video that has garnered over 600,000 views.

When the group approached the child’s mother to inform her of the incident, she reportedly replied, “Well, I can give you a $1 coin.”

“Are you getting the plow?” the woman shouted to her followers.

Commenters slammed the pubs for allowing children in the first place, with one saying: “I agree!” Pubs are no place for children.â€

“Why is there a kid in the pub in the first place?” Another was asked.

“I’ve never agreed with bringing kids to pubs. I’ve seen so many kids grow up in bars, only to spend every day there as adults,” wrote a third user.

Some commenters wondered why the child’s mother did not return the coin or at least offer to return it in full.

“Why didn’t the parent take it from the child and give it back?” asked one person.

“As a kid who understood pub rules, I never touched money at a pool table or took things that didn’t belong to me,” noted another commenter.

However, others thought the woman was overreacting.

“It’s only $2,” one viewer noted.

“It’s not a big deal, kids will be kids,” added another.

When approached for comment by news.com.au, the TikTokker declined to address the backlash he received, but did make a follow-up video clarifying a few things.

“I know he was just a kid and kids do things like that. Finally it is. There was no beef, she assured.

“We weren’t angry with the mother or the child. But the child was old enough to know not to take things that didn’t belong to him

Last year, another row about children in pubs emerged after a man witnessed a family allowing their child to create a ruckus inside a pub without making any effort to restrain them.

He took to Reddit, writing: “A family at my local pub let their kid throw food everywhere and made zero effort to stop him before he left.”

He shared a photo of hot chips scattered all over the floor and asked fellow forum members, “Is it okay now?”

The post received 1,600 likes and nearly 500 comments, almost all criticizing the parents’ behavior.

“Now? These people have always existed. I lost track of how many times I heard ‘it’s their job to clean it up’ while working at the movie theater as a kid,” one person noted.

“I mean, even if it is, why make it harder?” added another.

Another commenter said: “That’s right.”

While most Australian pubs still welcome children, a UK pub recently caused controversy when it announced that children would no longer be allowed to dine there.

The venue gave several reasons for the decision, citing issues such as “getting into mischief”, “playing with cutlery”, “running and disturbing other diners”, and “using the table as a drum, – among others .

The Eriswell Checkers pub explained that it is not a “child friendly” venue as it does not offer a children’s menu, play area or baby changing facilities.

The statement concluded by asking that diners ‘please take their children to an establishment that accommodates families’.
