It’s a brazen pursuit of booze.
Economy travelers have come up with a clever trick to still score free alcohol without a ticket to a first class seat.
According to a recent post on Reddit, flyers pretend to sit in first class as if it’s their assigned seat just to get the free booze, then go to their real seats after coming up with an excuse as to why must rise. .
The Redditor claimed they were sitting in the second row on a flight from Rhode Island to Atlanta when two women “accidentally” boarded and sat in the front row, threw their bags in the overhead compartment and “set down.”
Minutes later, the user said, another woman entered the plane and informed the couple that one of their seats was, in fact, hers.
“They quickly get up laughing and say ‘we’re newbies,'” the anonymous user explained. The flight attendant asks what row they are in and they say 24. They leave their bags and travel back to their row.
While the Redditor had “never seen anything like this before,” the flight attendant said it “just happened to her for the first time before.”
Apparently, “people sat down, got their pre-flight drink and then said I’m going to say hello to my sister in the back of the plane and left with free drinks never to return.”
“I’m assuming the ultimate goal is to get the drink and leave before they leave,” the user wrote in the comments.
The alleged hack sparked a debate on the Reddit thread, with some calling it “theft of services” and arguing that the pair should have been kicked off the flight.
“Sounds close to eat and drink to me,” quipped one person.
“Why do people think stealing services is cool,” chided another. “People pay for the drinks with the price of the ticket. Upgrades go to those who travel often and spend money on travel. The issue kills me too. A hole does it now everyone. Keep your belongings with you and stop trying to cheat.”
“Blow them off the plane,” another quipped. “Trying to defraud the airline is reason enough.”
