A landlord is paying upwards of $1,650 for a room in a London flat – with strict rules meaning the resident cannot spend time in the lounge or have guests over.
The listing – posted by a live-in landlord on the Spare Room flat site – is looking for a “quiet, clean and friendly” lodger to occupy their spare bedroom in the Hampstead Heath area.
The successful applicant will have access to the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, but most importantly not the lounge.
This is because the owner says they “work long hours” from the salon and as such is not available for use.
As such, the listing says the room would be suitable for someone who isn’t around much during the day and works “extended hours in the city.”
Despite not being allowed access to the living room, the resident is still expected to pay the full amount for all bills – including internet, water, electricity, gas, council tax and a fortnightly cleaner.
While asking any potential residents to be “quiet”, the owner states that they will be holding violin lessons for more than four hours every evening, four days a week, and that the apartment is next to an overground line.
The landlord also goes on to say that the tenant will not be allowed to bring any guests into the apartment.
The listing says: “I am looking for a quiet, clean and friendly person to stay here.
“You will have the use of the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.
“I work long hours from the living room, so this area is not available for use.
“This space would ideally suit someone who works long hours in the city”
It goes on to say: “Please note: the apartment is next to the overground line and you can hear the trains from the apartment.
“I am teaching violin here in the evenings from 4-8.30pm Mon-Thurs, whilst this is on a different floor to the bedroom I am offering it would be audible so please bear this in mind before applying for a room.”
The list has since been removed.
