We couldn’t find the toilet in the Airbnb – we wet ourselves laughing when we did

Did they go to the toilet?

A woman and her partner booked a charming Airbnb in the English countryside to attend a wedding – but were left completely confused when it came time to find a promised bathroom.

When Rachel Wigmore, 24, and partner Jacob Wyles, 26, booked The Old Thatch in Hailsham, East Sussex, they had no reason to doubt the inclusion of a toilet – even if their hideout was practically prehistoric.

They decided to stay there for two nights, but when they arrived, they found no facilities.

A couple who rented an Airbnb in a historic cottage near London were shocked when they couldn’t find a promised bathroom.

“It was a beautiful villa, very cute and comfortable. It looked completely normal,” said Wigmore, a nursery room manager from London, according to the Daily Mail.

“We were looking for the place for the bathroom. “When you find an Airbnb, you have to do some digging,” she said. “We couldn’t find the … toilet anywhere.”

They were about to admit defeat when they opened a sliding wardrobe door and found the toilet inside the cramped space – which was next to the bed.

“We thought it was absolutely ridiculous… [we] I wet myself laughing thinking it was the weirdest thing ever,” laughed Wigmore.

The rental – which was marketed as a “beautiful, traditional, thatched cottage” – had two double bedrooms with an electric log burner in the living room and could sleep up to four people. Wigmore spent nearly $500 for a two-night stay.

The listing assured that there was an en suite toilet for the double bedroom, but failed to mention that it would be housed in the mirrored wardrobe – within reach of the bed.

It wasn’t even easy to use. Wigmore indicated that the doors were sliding and did not close properly, so there was a small gap through which he could look.

“There was a sink in front of the toilet so I don’t know how they managed to squeeze it in.”

Unfortunately, they had no choice but to use the poorly placed toilet.

“I could lie to you and say that no one used it except me and my partner stayed in that room and we had to,” admitted Wigmore.

“Unfortunately, I had to… use the toilet in the middle of the night – so we just got used to peeing so close to each other,” she said.

But it wasn’t all bad – Wigmore said “the hilarity of the situation made it quite fun to sit there”.

While Wigmore and her partner didn’t say anything to Airbnb hosts, they did leave a “lighthearted” comment after their stay.

“It was something along the lines of ‘lovely cottage and great facilities, the cloakroom was a bit of a shock’,” Wigmore said.

“The [Airbnb] the owners were great and although they never mentioned it – it was a funny turn of events for the wedding weekend.
