With more and more travelers taking to social media to share stories of “cracking seats,” one passenger wonders if it’s become too common.
Posted on Reddit in the “r/travel” forum, one flyer claimed he or she saw three seats while flying Delta.
The poster first calls out a man who climbed 16 rows, writing that he was “trying to argue that it was his seat”.
“The other was a lady in 18A who was being adamant with the seat holder that she should be next to the window and not in the middle,” the post said.
The third squad member was described as a couple who allegedly moved from row 24, seats C and D to seats A and B.
With that experience in mind, the user asked, “This reclining seat is becoming very common. Thoughts?”
Other fliers took to the comments section to share similar experiences and their thoughts on whether reclining seats has become too common.
“The right is out of control,” commented one.
Another said: “Seat occupants should automatically be removed from the aircraft.”
“Every time I’ve come across this, I don’t engage with the squatter at all,” said one user, adding, “just hit the flight attendant’s call button and when they arrive, show your boarding pass and politely say you have a ‘conflict seats’. They’ll sort it out.”
“Maybe it’s a simple misunderstanding,” wrote another user.
Another person posted: “In my recent experiences I have not seen this at all. The most I had was a guy who asked to move from the aisle to the center so he could sit next to his GF in Australia.”
“Flight attendant here – call the flight attendant and tell them. Loved the people going back to their original places!! People will try anything,” commented another.
Brandon Blewett, the Texas-based author of “How to Avoid Strangers on Airplanes,” told Fox News Digital that he sees more people bumping into airplane seats.
Blewett said sometimes the sit-down can be understandable.
“For example, if a family misses a connecting flight and is booked with split seats, it is reasonable for parents to sit together to manage a young child – an arrangement most of us can sympathize with,” Blewett said. .
Blewett also noted the “outrageous,” explaining that “their red flag is when they won’t show their boarding pass,” he said.
“[Squatter] meetings often lead to delays that often cascade, leading to missed connections and frustrated passengers throughout the cabin,” Blewett added.
Blewett said, “Let the flight attendant handle it. Nobody wants to go viral on a reel titled, ‘Passenger meltdown at 30,000 feet.’
