Disturbing scenes have been captured inside a McDonald’s restaurant, where multiple creeps appear to have set up camp throughout the store.
Cockroaches were seen buzzing inside crisps, furniture, a bin and on the floor in exclusive footage released by newy.com.au from the Broadmeadow store, in the Newcastle area of NSW.
Not only was a cockroach filmed scurrying among the shop’s famous fries, but there were dozens of captured larvae lying across a pan.
The footage was released on Tuesday evening, but it was unclear when it was originally captured.
The website claimed that one customer immediately tore into his food after seeing the footage.
“I couldn’t be bothered to go back, I’m already late and that video ruined my dinner,” he told the publication.
Others on Facebook said they would now avoid the restaurant.
“I will never go there to buy food again,” wrote one in one comment.
Many claimed cockroaches were unavoidable and existed in most hospitality settings without people knowing, adding that this was to be expected especially when “teenagers” were employed.
“Why is everyone so shocked? These stores are run by teenagers who can’t even clean their own bedrooms, as if they know anything about food safety standards, one noted.
A McDonald’s spokesperson told news.com.au they were “disappointed” by what the video and photos showed.
“We are disappointed to see these images. This clearly falls short of McDonald’s strict food safety, quality and hygiene standards, they said.
“We have taken immediate action at McDonald’s Broadmeadow, including a full professional pest inspection and the installation of additional pest control measures.
“We will continue to work closely with the restaurant to ensure our customers feel confident in our commitment to food safety, quality and an excellent customer experience.”
It’s not the first time Maccas has come under fire for hygiene concerns, with a Queensland employee caught in May last year drying a cloth head under the restaurant’s chips, just inches from the food.
The fast food chain insisted the gross act, which took place at a branch in the Ipswich suburb of Booval, south-west of Brisbane, was an “isolated incident”.
A short video of the worker holding what appears to be a detachable microfiber mop head under the heater, near boxes of chips, quickly went viral after being shared by the Subtle Bogan Traits Facebook page.
“So where does the taste come from,” one person joked.
“Back in the day we just used Angus seasoning for shaker fries,” added another.
“Two beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed wrap,” wrote a third.
One person said: “The old McMop is back! There must be a limited time just to get in the interim [theyâre] hot.â€
