Millennials are horrified by the revival of 2010s fashion trend: ‘I have PTSD from those tops’

It’s a wild style revival that is mess millennial feather.

Lips are curling in disgust and eyebrows are twitching in shock at the sudden resurgence of a “terrible” 2010s fashion fad: the peplum.

“No peplums,” screamed Emma Fogarty, a content creator from Dublin, in a trending clip of herself stumbling through racks of clothes filled with the polished jewellery.

“Oh hell no,” screamed a horrified TikTok commenter below the post, which has racked up over 980,000 views.

“I have PTSD from those peaks,” confessed an equally shocked spectator.

“Sheessss baaaccckkkkkkkkk,” wrote another with a menacing zing.

The online outrage from millennials (people born between 1981 and 1996) sounds eerily similar to the flames of fury ignited by Gen Z’s recent recovery of the “dress over jeans.”

It’s also reminiscent of the volcanic anger that has erupted over the horribly wrong way twenty-somethings wear low-rise jeans today.

However, despite the upset by fashionistas over 30 – the glamorous girls who already survived the business casual supremacy of Peplum 15 years ago – it seems that shirts, jackets and dresses with a flared, gathered or pleated dress in line waistlines are enjoying a deceptive reawakening.

And the fashion trend isn’t just rearing its ugly head on social media.

A-list royals such as Rihanna, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, as well as royals including Kate Middleton, have recently been seen sporting the Y2K-inspired cut – which was popularized by fashion houses such as Christian Dior , Chanel and Balenciaga in its prime.

Cynthia Erivo, 38, contributed to the design’s recent return to the spotlight at Sunday’s 82nd annual Golden Globes.

For the chichi party, the “Wicked” stunner rocked a sculptural floral-print Louis Vuitton dress.

“Shōgun” star Anna Sawai, 32, also wowed on the red carpet in a white Dior two-piece with a sleeveless peplum top and column skirt.

And luckily for the controversial look, a handful of online fashion fans are welcoming her comeback with open arms — and bulging bellies.

“I never stopped at peplum, medium size and carrying my weight in the stomach. Peplum is a must for me!!” cheered one peplum-satisfied fan under Fogerty’s video.

I’m not even mad about it,” wrote another. “I used to love a peplum top and now I want to hide my belly.”

“Peplum,” wrote another, “they could never make me hate you.”
