These looks just won’t fly.
The chaos of catching a flight is quite stressful and time-consuming – arriving at the airport two hours before departure, waiting in long lines at check-in points and carrying clumsy luggage with you as you carry it to the gate.
So to avoid showing up on an unusually late plane, one travel professional is warning people not to rock two specific styles that she considers heaven’s no-no.
“Don’t wear these to airport security to help you avoid delays,” began Laurie, a pilot’s wife and travel influencer, in a TikTok newsletter that drew over 1 million virtual viewers.
“Nothing can be tied around your waist,” she said, calling her advice “No. Tip 1” without explaining why the hip-hugging look can cause problems at the airport. “Just put it in the bin [or] wear it on the plane.”
The career vacationer then asked her fellow frequent flyers to step away from the lit devices.
“Don’t wear sequins like I did on Christmas Day years ago,” said Laurie sans further. “It just might delay you getting to your flight.”
Unfortunately, the clotheshorses of the internet didn’t seem to appreciate her helpful manner.
“I’ll wear what I want,” spat one wild naysayer.
“How are topics a risk?”
“Is this an abuse of power,” said another commenter, in part, wondering if the airline powers that be have too much control over passengers’ personal circumstances.
But it’s an elegant sacrifice that trendy dishes on the go just have to make.
In December, the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, issued a public service announcement on flashy fashion via Facebook, saying, “Fake and beads and glitter, oh my! If your holiday sweater has these things, it often alerts our security devices for additional screening.”
“We recommend you pack those loud sweaters for your trip instead of wearing them to the airport,” officials continued.
However, this is far from the only rule of the air, do not dare to wear.
Tommy Cimato, a flight attendant and content creator, previously appeared on social media, encouraging travelers not to wear shorts or skirts on a flight.
“You never know how clean the seat is going to be,” he explained in a viral video. So if you have pants, you’ll have less germs.”
Cher Killough, a cabin crew member from Dallas, Tex., echoed Cimato’s suggestion against shorts in one clip, warning, “[If] we have an evacuation and you have to go down the slide, your backsides are going to rip you off!”
One particular flight attendant wrote, “I would never wear sandals/flip flops either,” under Killough’s dos and don’ts — ill-fitting shoes can become dangerous when navigating an airport or during mid-flight emergencies, according to experts.
“I also wear gloves if I have to use them [lavatory]”, the commentator added.
“People don’t wash their hands.”
