Crash-feared passengers panicked after ‘terrible’ Boeing 737-800 flight fails to take off – twice

Talk about a flight risk.

A planeload of panicked passengers returned to the terminal after their plane failed to take off – not once, but twice – in Thailand.

Pilots with Nok Air Boeing 737-800 scheduled to depart from Bangkok in December. 30 are reported to have left their precious cargo in the wake of the deadly Jeju Air flight with identical planes from the Land of Smiles in South Korea – which had killed 179 people a day earlier.

Narongsak Toyabut, a passenger who captured the footage inside flight DD176, documented the plane’s struggle to take off from Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport.

During the initial takeoff, the amateur videographer noticed the plane’s engines stalled, which caused some concern, but when it happened again during the second attempt, he knew something was wrong.

“The second attempt started with a decent take off, but the engine sounded awful. The plane gained speed, but I noticed that it had already passed the usual take-off point near the first hangar of the Air Force,” said Toyabut.

“By the time it reached the second hangar, it had not yet taken off. Then, the plane suddenly slowed down and turned around. The captain reported an engine malfunction and returned to the airport apron for an inspection,” Toyabut added.

Thankfully, his flight to Nan Nakhon Airport in Nan, Thailand was grounded due to technical difficulties.

“For those who weren’t there, it’s hard to explain how terrible the situation was. I am thankful that the captain did not insist on flying when the plane was not ready. “I can’t imagine what could have happened if we had to stop mid-flight,” he said.

Nok Airlines issued a statement regarding the situation that has reportedly worried many passengers.

“Nok Air prioritizes safety, so the aircraft had to be thoroughly inspected before returning to service. A replacement aircraft was brought in to operate the flight, causing flight DD176 to be delayed until 19:20. “Nok Air apologizes to all passengers for the impact of this incident,” the statement said.

Although this flight malfunction has been addressed, investigators are still trying to understand why Jeju Air 7C2216, which departed from the Thai capital of Bangkok to Muan in Southwest Korea, burst into flames after hitting an embankment.

As previously reported by The Post, investigators plan to seize documents and materials related to the operation and maintenance of aircraft and airport facilities.

They hope to find out why the plane did not deploy its landing gear and what prompted the pilot to rush into a second attempt to land after telling air traffic control the plane had suffered a bird strike and declared an emergency.
