TikTok star Tabitha Swatosh broke down in tears as she opened up about a moving nightmare that has left her without a place to live.
The 24-year-old, who rose to fame as part of a popular social media collective known as The Hype House, revealed a few weeks ago that she is planning to relocate to Nashville, TN.
She and her roommates had chosen to end their lease on their Tarzana, CA home at the end of December, she explained.
Swatosh, who is known online as Tabs, had been sharing a large eight-bedroom, 9.5-bathroom mansion in suburban Los Angeles with several other internet stars, including her boyfriend, Michael Sanzone, and friends their close Alex Warren and Kouvr Annon.
However, after Warren and Annon tied the knot in June, they announced they would be moving into their marital home in Nashville, with Tabs and the other roommates also deciding to move out of their shared home and find their own. .
Tabs has documented her moving process in a series of TikTok videos, capturing everything from packing to house hunting.
She had booked her own movers to transport all her belongings “across the country” in December. 18, she explains in a recent clip.
However, disaster struck when she discovered that the dream home she had found in Tennessee had been sold out from under her – despite claiming she had already put down a deposit and signed a contract with the previous owner.
“I found a house I liked last week in Nashville. It’s nice because it’s not too far from my friends,” she tearfully tells the camera, sitting in the backyard of her rented house in Tarzana.
“You really won’t believe this,” she continues. “Mine [real estate agent] and I went to go look at this house, I put my deposit down on my dream house.”
Tabs explains that she asked the property owner if she would be able to move into the house earlier than originally planned, stating that they agreed that she would receive the keys in December. 23.
However, just five days before the date, with all her boxes loaded onto moving trucks, the social media star was dealt a terrible blow.
“Today, I’m supposed to be packing and moving across the country,” she says. “And 30 minutes ago, my real estate agent called me because he had bad news. … They sold the house we have to move to. How is this possible?”
In tears, she then drops the camera to reveal a video of her moving truck loaded with her possessions.
“I’m actually very confused. They have my deposit and in writing. And now my movers are here with nowhere to go,” she says. “I have nowhere to go.”
According to Tabs, the only help the homeowner is getting is to have her belongings shipped elsewhere when the truck arrives at the property she was supposed to be moving to.
“Moving where?” she asks. “Where should I put it?”
At a loss, she has a FaceTime call with her father while still on video.
“You know how I went to Nashville to look at houses?” she asks her father. She gives him the update: She had a down payment and an agreement to move.
“All my movers are here — and they sold the house,” she says.
“Have you already put money on it?” asks her father, Matthew Swatosh. “Will you get your money back?”
His daughter has more immediate concerns: “How can they sell the house and leave me stranded? Where should all my stuff go?”
Pere Swatosh goes into motivational mode: “Don’t worry about it, this is great. This is a story! Look at me. Who are you? This is an opportunity. You’re looking at it all wrong.”
He then insists that she’s just going through the ups and downs of adulthood.
“This is real life,” he says. “You are looking at it from the negative side. You’re not looking at it as an opportunity.”
Then he adds: “I’m sorry.”
“You being you, I feel for you, but I’m not worried about you,” he adds reassuringly, noting that the “worst thing that could happen” is that she ends up staying in a hotel.
Tabs’ shocking news prompted many messages of support from her fans, who posted around 3,790 comments and were liked 1.3 million times.
“Your dad is awesome,” one commented. “Also…lawyer right away.”
Another wrote: “Everything happens for a reason and I can’t wait to see it all work out even better than you imagined!”
Another added, “Well Alex and Kouvr might have a roommate for a while.”
According to Realtor.com®, tenants have rights, and Swatosh should check her lease agreement to see how a home sale affects her lease agreement.
In the comments, the media influencer was quick to clarify that her listing agent was just as surprised as she was.
“To clarify, my real estate agent is great. Was HOME & Homeowners Agent. My agent and I were both shocked by the same news at the same time.”
